Data Collection, Analysis and Visualization

One of the most important aspects of an outfitting business is tracking and analyzing customer engagement. I designed and implemented a system to collect guest and guide numbers on each trip section. While the reservation software knows the number of guests scheduled for the trip, due to the nature of outdoor adventure, changes happen quickly and it is essential to track those changes.
With the collected data I calculated averages for every trip section including average number of guests per trip, average number of guests per guide, and average number of guides per trip.

I also generated capacity percentages based on the ideal guests per guide and ideal guides per trip. These capacities show the high profitability trips and where improvement can be made and inform pricing and scheduling policies.

Through analyzing this data I was able to find the average guests per trip broken down by week day. The weekday breakdown helps inform weekend versus weekday pricing structures and staff hiring and scheduling procedures.

Similarly to the weekday breakdown, I also created a monthly average trip size. The monthly breakdown helps inform hiring and staff onboarding procedures.

After collecting and analyzing the data I compiled it into charts and graphs to compare trip sections, trip sizes, and year-over-year changes. The stacked-clustered bar chart compares the yearly totals, broken down by trip section. The line graph illustrates the cumulative yearly guest count for each year.
