Project Management | Team Delegation | Empathetic Communication

Wa’uh was as a project focused on inspiring empathy in an audience no affected by the specific problem. My team took a deep dive into the lack of water accessibility in India and Ethiopia. This team project researched and presented the incredible issue that plagues these areas in the world in a way that generated empathy from the viewers.

I was the project lead and organized the delegation of work, due dates, team deliverables, and the exhibit design. I made sure everyone in the team did the part of the project they were most interested in, and continuously ensured all ideas were heard and respected.

We presented our work with a museum-style exhibit that featured a Photo Tunnel and video game.

The Photo Tunnel was designed and manufactured from the team. It was built out of PVC pipe and covered with fabric from Uganda and neighboring African countries. Within the tunnel we hung photos and statistics that highlighted the struggles of daily life with water insecurity.

Our video game was designed similar to the popular mobile game snake. Where the player uses the arrow keys to collect water. The player has a few seconds to collect the next water drop before they loose the game from dehydration. The time allowed between collecting water diminishes as the game continues. The game was designed to highlight the difficulty of finding and collecting water in our focus areas.

I also represented the Wa'uh team at the 2022 Wester Regional Honors Conference at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I presented our project on generating empathy and the necessity of empathy when approaching open ended problems. I confidently presented the Wa’uh project to Honors students and faculty from Honors Colleges across the Western United States.
